The Pool Building Process
Having a new pool installed may sound like a hassle, and you might have heard some horror stories. That is why it is so important to do your research and make sure that you are choosing a reputable swimming pool contractor. At Beautiful Backyard Living, we pride ourselves on making the pool building process as easy and hassle free for our customers as possible. All you need to do is call us (972)974-3515 or use the Consultation Request form below, and make sure you have a copy of your property survey plat (usually in the closing paperwork from your home purchase). We will contact you and take care of everything from there! Keep in mind, there is no cost for a consultation, so feel free to contact us even if you aren’t sure yet.
During the initial consultation, one of our project managers will come to your home and take some measurements and some photos, then sit down and talk to you about what you have in mind. If you aren’t sure, our project manager can make some suggestions as well as our expert design team. We will go over some color and feature options as well as pricing while we are there. You can decide to move forward to the design phase at that point, or if you are not ready, take some time to think about it. That’s it. There is no high pressure sales or commitment required!
Once you are ready to move on to the design phase, just let your project manager know. We will ask for a $400 design deposit (this will be applied to the first payment on your project), and then our expert design team will get started on your design. They don’t use default pictures or pre-designed houses, they will virtually build your actual house and yard so that you can see what the finished product will look like. This usually takes a week or less. Once they’ve completed the design, we will come out to your home and show you the design on your TV. We are able to make modifications to the design based on your requests. At this point there is still no obligation and you can take your time and think some more, or decide to move forward with the project.
Depending on what city you are in, the permit process can take up to 3 weeks or more. We will apply for the permit right away, and let you know as soon as it has been approved. During this time, we will also work with you on getting your HOA application completed and turned in. We will fill out all the forms and provide the info, all you have to do is sign. As soon as your permit is approved, we will call you to discuss scheduling and a timeline for your project. Your project manager will help you set up an online portal to access information about your project, and you will frequently receive notifications and updates.
On the day of excavation, you will meet with your project manager and excavation crew who will stake out the pool location based on your design. After you have approved the location and elevation of the pool we will then move forward with excavating the pool. If there is any excess soil that cannot be graded into the yard it will be removed. Your project manager will also be confirming the location of your filter equipment and the light junction boxes. If you have not made your final coping and tile selections at this time, that will also need to be confirmed this day in order to avoid any delays in the construction process.
The concrete is installed after the plumbing is done and steel reinforcing has been installed in a cross-pattern style on the sides and bottom of your pool. The steel bars all connect to a four bar-box beam on the top, which adds strength to your pool. Shotcrete, or gunite, is a mixture of sand, rock and cement that is shot through a high pressure hose to create the shell of your new pool. After this step is complete, you will need to lightly water the concrete a couple times a day to allow the concrete to cure slowly. We will then need to wait another 5-7 days before we can begin the next step to allow the concrete time to fully cure.
The majority of the project is complete at this point. Once the pool equipment is installed and the electricity is run, all the decorative options that you chose will be installed. This includes decorative tile, coping, the pool deck, and finally a hand-troweled interior finish, usually a high-grade pebble or quartz product, is added. Once all of this has been complete, your new pool will be filled with water, started up, and ready for use! Your project manager will stick around to teach you how to use all of the equipment, as well as how to operate and maintain your pool.
